Block Party Fashion

The fashion show was small, but I had a lot of fun.  I have never considered myself model material (still don’t!), but I decided to do it because it was something I had never done before.

I asked a friend of mine who is a wizard with a camera to come and take pictures, but she flaked on me.

Mr. Day happily filled in.  Therefore, the pics are a bit dark, and he ONLY took pictures of me, but I like them and I’ll share them with you.  :)

The first dress is my own.  We were asked to model our favorite outfit.  Not only is this my favorite outfit, it’s my newest.  I started drooling over it in March, but didn’t get it until June, when it was on clearance and the only one left in the store.

My favorite dress

For the second outfit, we had to wear white.  Our local Ashley Stewart store graciously loaned us clothes for this.

The dress I NEED in my life!

Let me just tell you: I LOVE THIS DRESS. LOVE.  I wish I could have kept it.  Not only is it gorgeous, but it’s also in a size that I haven’t worn in years!  So I felt especially pretty.  I’m going back for it in 2 weeks. I hope pray it’s still there!

Everybody in white.

This is a picture of all the ladies at the end.  There were only four of us because some people pulled out at the last minute, but I had a great time!

Why yes, I do drool over cameras. Pictures too.

I remember being around 9 years old, and all I wanted for my birthday was a camera.  I don’t know why I wanted one. All I knew is that something about taking pictures called to me.  My first camera was a small Kodak 110. Yes..the little tiny camera that you had to buy flash cubes for.  Don’t ask me where the pictures I took with that thing are…cuz I have no idea.  But take pictures I did.  I was quite happy with my little camera.  I used some version of the 110 until I as in my twenties. Then I graduated to a 35mm.  Nothing fancy, just the Kmart version.  And I took MORE pictures.  Some of those I still have.

Then came the internet, and web sites. I HAD to have a digital camera!  So in my early thirties, I bought an HP Photosmart. NOT the best choice, but it did it’s job. It also DIED after a year…and I thought I was going to die. I had no camera!

Mid-thirties. Next camera:  Canon Powershot A60. I loved this little camera.  I always kept it in my purse….which means that I did’nt take the best care of it. So after two years, it died. And I got my nicest camera yet (which I take IMMACULATE care of!): Canon Powershot S5 IS. The pictures you see on this site are taken with this camera.

Even though I have a pretty nice camera, I still want a DSLR.  Digital Single Lens Reflex. Or, a camera that I can use different lenses on.  The one I’m currently drooling over is the Canon Rebel T2i. Yes, I am partial to Canon cameras.  I’ve never used anything else. That HP does NOT count! .

One thing that I love to do while I’m dreaming is look at sites by photographers, amateur or professional, that take great pictures.  Some of my faves are:

Chookooloonks:  I’ve been following Karen Walrond’s site for a few years now.  Sure, she’s a Nikon user, but I LOVE her pictures.  She manages to make ordinary things look extraordinary.

HowIWonder:  I love pictures of kids. Their little faces are SO adorable.  Katie McDonnell does a wonderful job of capturing their youth, innocence, and cuteness!

Nakeea Jarvis: I went to high school with Nakeea, but it wasn’t until I saw her on facebook last year that I found out she is a professional photographer. Once again, I love pictures of children. Nakeea takes great ones, and everything is always so bright and colorful.

Shutter Sisters: They are  “a collaborative photo blog that welcomes all women with a passion for photography from experts to amateurs alike.” I just like seeing all the pictures. I keep putting off participating until I get my “real”camera.  I know that’s stupid…but that’s what I do. LOL!

So yes..I stalk great photography, but yet, I always leave my camera at home.  Something has to change about that!   Oh..and yes, I do have pictures you can look at.  Head on over to Flickr!

Do you have a hobby that you talk about more than you actually DO?  Are you interested in photography?  Have pictures to show?  Leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

Family photos – Memorial Day 2010

We went to a picnic on Memorial Day.  It was a beautiful day. HOT, but beautiful.  TJ and I just relaxed, and the boys ran themselves ragged.

The Man

This TJ’s “cool” face. I think. Whatever face it is, I like it.

Thing #1

I am getting into fighting mode.  Yes, I am prepared to fight girls over my son! I called his name, he turned around, this is what I got. I love it, even if it is a little blurry.

Thing #2

He does NOT like to pose for pictures. I have to “catch” a good smile, if I can. One day I’ll “catch” him looking into the camera.

Sweet Pea

I’ve been training him on his “camera” smile since Kindergarten. Hard work pays off!

So Happy Together!

Mr. and Mrs. Day. Yes, we really are THAT happy!
