Growing up, I didn’t want for much. I usually got the things I wanted. Not immediately, but eventually. My mother taught me to prioritize at a young age. She’d say, “Write out your Christmas list and put a star next to the three things you want the most.” So I did, and those were the things I always got. If she had extra money, then I’d get some of the other things too.
I was also blessed with an awesome family and an amazing godmother, who worked with my mom on that list. I never felt deprived.
But there was that ONE toy. Actually, TWO, that I never got.
I don’t remember if I didn’t ask for them, or if I just didn’t prioritize them, but I never received them.
First….that Barbie Dream House. With the elevator!
This is a picture of a recent one, but you get my point:
The second toy I never got was the Talking Viewmaster. I had the regular one, but back in the seventies/early eighties, this thing was EXPENSIVE.
I always hoped to have a daughter so that I could buy her the dream house and live vicariously through playing with her, but alas, the Good Lord decided that I should be surrounded by testosterone.
But I did make sure my son had the Viewmaster. BELIEVE THAT.
Is there a toy you always wanted but never got? Tell me about it in the comments!
The Dream House! Wow, that brings back memories. The one toy I ALWAYS wanted was the big ol Barbie head and the makeup and curlers that went with it.
…and even though I have a girl, she’s got NO interest in it. So much for vicarious living. 🙂

I DID have the head! I loved that thing. Of course, your daughter has no interest! Isn’t that how it always happens? LOL Thanks for reading!
